Circuit Emulation Services over Ethernet

CIR

Committed Information Rate (CIR) is the minimum guaranteed throughput that a network must deliver for the service under normal operating conditions, and a specific Bandwidth Profile parameter, defining the average rate (expressed in bits per second) of ingress Service Frames up to which the network delivers Service Frames and meets the performance objectives defined by the Class of Service (CoS) attribute. A Bandwidth Profile property where a pre-determined level of Bandwidth Profile compliance for each Service Frame, if present, is ignored when determining the level of compliance for each Service Frame.

Aliases (separate with |): Committed Information Rate
Codec

A Codec is a device or computer software program that enCOdes and DECodes a digital signal or stream of data. Codecs are commonly used to make optimal use of bandwidth during data transmission while maintaining the quality of the data streams for voice, video, streaming media, videoconferencing applications.

Colocation

Colocation is primarily a managed service which reduces client cost and complexity, where multiple businesses remotely locate mission critical computer assets, taking advantage of large scale facility values including enterprise class, SAS-70, carrier fiber network interconnections and lower latencies, power systems, premise security, fire protection, cooling and cages/racks. Colocation is also known as Colo, Coloc, Collocation and Carrier Hotels.

Color Mode

Color Mode is a Bandwidth Profile parameter which indicates whether the color-aware or color-blind property is represented within the Bandwidth Profile.

Color-aware

Color-aware is a traffic management capability to identify whether traffic is conformant or non-conformant to a bandwidth profile based on different Class of Service (CoS) ID values. A Bandwidth Profile property where a pre-determined level of Bandwidth Profile compliance for each Service Frame is taken into account when determining the level of compliance for each Service Frame.

Color-blind

Color-blind is Bandwidth Profile property where a pre-determined level of Bandwidth Profile compliance for each Service Frame, if present, is ignored when determining the level of compliance for each Service Frame.

Control Plane

A Control Plane is a logical plane where protocol packets get exchanged for the purpose of achieving multiple functions, such as establishing paths used for packet forwarding or for managing network nodes.

CoS

Class of Service, or CoS, is a classification, where a group of Service Frames have a commitment from the Service Provider to receive a particular level of performance.

Aliases (separate with |): Class of Service
CPE

Customer Premise Equipment, or CPE, is equipment physically located at a customer premise, such as a switch or a router.

Aliases (separate with |): Customer Premise Equipment
