Asynchronous Transfer Mode, or ATM, is comprised of a group of protocols within the ATM model, based on an underlying mechanism to transport all data in a stream of fixed length packets, known as ATM cells of fifty-three (53) bytes, benefiting complex network switching and multiplexing functions.
