An Add Drop Multiplexer, or ADM, is a device installed at an intermediate point on a digital circuit that enables new signals to enter and existing signals to exit. Add / Drop multiplexing can be performed on optical or electrical signals. The multiplexing device may operate on wavelengths, or it may convert between wavelengths and digital Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) signals.
