TelePacific to acquire Covad Fixed Wireless Broadband
TelePacific Communications, the largest California-based competitive local exchange carrier providing integrated voice and data telecommunications services to SMB in California and Nevada, and MegaPath, a leading provider of managed IP data, voice, and security services in North America, have announced a definitive agreement for TelePacific to acquire MegaPath's NextWeb, subsidiary. NextWeb, Inc, dba Covad Wireless is a broadband fixed wireless carrier primarily operating in California and Nevada. The acquisition of Covad Wireless will increase the availability of high bandwidth options to customers, as well as increase TelePacific's capability to quickly provision, reinforce its business continuity solutions with both wireless and wired network paths, and increase ownership of last mile networks, thus reducing its dependence on ILECs (incumbent local exchange carriers). Additionally, the transaction will also strengthens TelePacific's position as the number one competitor to major carriers, AT&T and Verizon, for SMB customers in the California and Nevada markets.
