Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an internet, standards based protocol, for monitoring and managing devices on internet protocol (IP) networks. Network routers, network switches, servers, workstations, printers, modems and other devices commonly have built-in support for SNMP. A typical use for SNMP is to monitor network-attached devices for conditions that require the attention of a technical administrator.
